Family Matters! Junior Coaching Clinic

8 July, 2017

Saturday 1st July 2017, saw the Waterford RLFC and Senior Rugby League program host the clubs first ever Junior Coaching Clinic.

Senior players from all grades were on hand to encourage and teach the next generation of players coming through the Waterford system.

Club Coaching Director Brad Gough was extremely proud of his Senior coaches and their players for hosting such an awesome event, with more to come, we are told. Coaching Director Gough stated, “It is amazing to see all of these kids participating in the clinic and getting to meet our Senior club players and coaches, the game of rugby league is most definitely the overall winner today, especially considering we are in the middle of the school holidays, and events like this, keep our young players engaged in the game.”

The event was a complete success, with Open Premier Grade Head Coach Ben McDermott commenting, “Not only are we seeing junior players thoroughly enjoying this clinic, the Senior players are showing that they are just big kids too.”

From the perspective of the writer, I was truly amazed and in awe of the club’s resident Gold Coast Titan, NYC recruit Jake Sparey being on hand, after only playing the night before, his interaction with all of the junior players was nothing short of brilliant. “Teaching players skills and drills is important at all levels, but for young juniors the emphasis must be on enjoyment and that is what this club offers.” Jake said, he also went on to comment “I have played all my junior footy here, and that is what makes you stay, friendships and fun, mixed with positivity from coaches and the families around the club, I may be a Titan now, but I will always be a Demon at heart.”

With a club directive so positive, a Senior Program so passionate, and players that truly have learnt how to love a game, the Waterford RLFC are definitely showing where football has its highest value, JUNIORS.

The Open Premier Grade staff and players would like to thank all of their 2017 Partners, for their support is invaluable to continuing our Senior Program at the club and hosting junior clinics like this one; The Meadowbrook Hotel, Protect Life Insurance, Emu Sportswear, IGA Meadowbrook, Inox MX, OneBUILD Homes,Queensland Solar and Lighting, Swan Real Estate, MP Bert Van Manen, Cr.
